Movie Facts That might Surprise you...

Hello Film Buffs ☺

Today I've decided to make a list of some of the interesting movie facts I have stored in the useless information parts of my brain, so enjoy!

  1. Despite playing Harrison Ford's Dad in Indiana Jones, Sean Connery is only 12 years his senior! This shows the quality of the acting and direction in this film as it's a perfectly believable Father-Son combination..
  2. Indiana Jones was originally called Indiana Smith... completely changes everything. Indiana Smith just isn't the same, although if it was the other way around Indiana Jones would sound completely wrong. I do believe however, that Jones is ever so slightly more exciting sounding than Smith (no offence).
  3. Will Smith was offered the roll of NEO in THE MATRIX and turned it down. Apparently the Hollywood Action man decided to film "Wild Wild West" instead, he apparently has been quoted since saying that he doesn't really regret turning down the role as he wasn't intelligent enough as an actor yet and would have ruined the movie anyway.
  4. The First American film to ever show a toilet flushing on screen was Psycho. Not much to say about that one just a fairly random, but nonetheless interesting fact about this film.
  5. In Terminator 2, when the Terminator impersonates Sarah Connor, the actress playing the part is Leslie Hamilton, Linda Hamilton's real life twin sister.
  6. In Home Alone, when Kevin looks at the picture of Buzz's Girlfriend, it's actually a boy in a wig. Apparently the Director thought it would be too cruel to let a girl play this part
  7. In the scene where the Joker crashes Bruce Wayne's Charity Ball in "The Dark Knight", Michael Cane had lines to say. This was the scene that Cane had first seen Heath Ledger as the Joker, he was so shocked by Ledger's performance, that he forgot to say his lines. Director James Cameron didn't bother to re shoot as he apparently thought that this was more realistic as this is probably exactly how Alfred would react.
  8. In preparation for his part in Raging Bull Robert De Niro undertook intense training and entered three Brooklyn boxing matches, he actually won 2 of them and then as if that's not dedication enough he also managed to gain 60lbs for the second part of the film.
  9. In the classic shower scene in Psycho, the knife-stabbing sound effect was made by plunging a knife into a melon. It's these weird and wacky sound effects that often make the best and most convincing sounds for the movies.
  10. Allegedly with the film Meet the Fockers, the MPAA would not allow use of the name ‘Focker’ unless the filmmakers could find an actual person with that last name, I suppose they thought it too crudely obvious to have just for comedic purposes, but it all worked out for the best in the end.
  11.  In Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, to get a realistic surprised reaction, the kissing scene between Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann was cut out of Orlando Bloom's script - there's nothing like a natural human reaction.
  12. Out of all of Disney's films "101 Dalmatians" and "Peter Pan" are the only two with both parents that are present/don't die throughout the movie.
  13. The sketch that Jack drew of Rose in "Titanic" was really drawn by director James Cameron. The film shots of the picture being drawn are of Cameron's hands, he also drew the other pictures in Jack's sketchbook - A Very Talented Man!
  14. Actress Grace Kelly's movies are banned in Monaco by order of Prince Ranier - now that's a protective husband, I'm not really sure if it's admirable or laughable. It's nice if he's thinking of her, but it does seem a little possessive, does it not? She was an actress first after all...
  15. Apart from London, Liverpool is the most filmed British city, it was used for more than 140 films in 2002. - it's not all dominated by the U.S.A evidently
  16. Bruce Lee was so fast, that they actually had to slow a film down so you could see his moves. - completely the opposite of most cases - impressive!
  17. In the Hangover - Stu's missing tooth isn't done by CGI or any other effects, Ed Helms who plays the part never had an adult incisor and wears a fake one. So they simply took it out to create a completely realistic looking missing tooth!
  18. Rolling Stone Keith Richards was supposed to make a cameo in The Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Mans Chest, he pulled out however due to other commitments. It's said that Johnny Depp bases his portrayal of Jack Sparrow on Richards.
  19.  In 2007, the Munchkins from the wizard of oz were awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Seven of them attended the ceremony: Mickey Carroll, Ruth L Robinson, Margaret Pellegrini, Meinhardt Raabe, Karl Kosiczky and August Clarence Swenson. - Rightfully deserved.
  20. In The water scenes of "Titanic" Kate Winslet was one of few actors who didn't wear a wetsuit and as a result contracted pneumonia.
Okay that's it 20 interesting albeit slightly useless facts that you didn't know about some classic films. You may now go and share them all with your film fan friends.

That's All folks

Fay♥
